About the work

Amikam Toren makes canvases, works on paper and objects that take found images and 'improve' or mend them. For example, a shattered milk bottle is painstakingly reassembled to a state of near completeness. Language, meaning and interpretation are key preoccupations in Toren's work. Here he transforms the bland graphics of signage into an expression of the emotional values of a shared existence. This limited edition has now been included in the Government Art Collection.

Toren has had solo shows at the ICA, London; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Serpentine Gallery; Matt's Gallery, London; Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol and Chisenhale Gallery, London.
